What We Do

Epilepsy Australia is a nationally registered charity that provides services to the community including:

  • Raising awareness of epilepsy and other seizure disorders through national events, national media campaigns and state and territory events;
  • Promoting and facilitating specialist research into the medical and social aspects of epilepsy;
  • Ensuring that the needs of all people with epilepsy, their families and carers are met in the most appropriate way through the collaborative network that exists between member associations;
  • Producing quality information for all consumers seeking to better understand epilepsy and its management, such information is independently evaluated against national and state or territory disability standards;
  • Accessing the largest epilepsy library in the southern hemisphere held by member association, the Epilepsy Foundation of Victoria;
  • Facilitating access to member associations programs such as recreational programs and the EFV Accommodation Project which finds accommodation for those people whose physicians send them to Melbourne for tests and other procedures;
  • Developing an epilepsy information kit for indigenous communities;
  • Accessing the expertise and specialist knowledge of professional staff Australia-wide;
  • Lobbying for improved access to existing services for people living with epilepsy and other seizure disorders;
  • Lobbying for increased public spending on support services for people with epilepsy and other seizure disorders.
  • Lobbying for a comprehensive understanding of all the issues faced by those living with epilepsy.

Epilepsy & Society Symposium: 21 October 2010

The Epilepsy & Society Programme is a one-day symposium for people with epilepsy, their family, friends and carers, and for those professionals working with people with epilepsy. Run in conjunction with the 8th Asian & Oceanian Epilepsy Congress to be held in Melbourne from 21-24 October, 2010, the final programme is now available.

Excellence in Epilepsy Journalism Award 2010
